260,000 families to get VGF rice in Rangpur

A total of over 260,000 poor and distressed families of Rangpur will get 2,606 tonnes of rice under special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) Programme to celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.

Officials of the district administration said the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated the rice for distribution to the poor and distressed families in all eight upazilas and three pourashabhas in the district.

“The upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives and union level committees are preparing to distribute the rice to listed VGF card holder families,” said Acting District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Mehedi Hassan.

Each of the selected beneficiary families will get 10 kg VGF rice in all 77 unions under eight upazilas and three pourashabhas in the district. The distribution process will be completed before the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.

“Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib will formally inaugurate distribution of the VGF rice to the beneficiary families soon,” Hassan added.

Under the programme, 125.64 tonnes of rice will be distributed to 12,564 VGF card holder families in Sadar upazila, 557.01 tonnes to 55,701 families in Mithapukur, 436.54 tonnes to 43,654 families in Pirganj and 375.98 tonnes to 37,598 families in Pirgachha upazila.

Besides, 180.78 tonnes of VGF rice will be distributed to 18,078 families in Kawnia, 382.07 tonnes to 38,207 families in Gangachara, 306.08 tonnes to 30,608 families in Badarganj and 180.30 tonnes of rice to 18,030 families in Taraganj upazilas.

In addition to this, 30.81 tonnes of VGF rice will be distributed to 3,081 VGF card holder families in Badarganj pourasabha and 15.40 tonnes of rice will be distributed to 1,540 families each in Haragachh and Pirganj pourashabhas.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Md Rabiul Alam said steps are being taken to complete distribution of the allocated VGF rice to the card holder families before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivity to assist them in celebrating the festivity, reports BSS.
