Nearly 40 per cent doctors at different public hospitals and health centres in the country remain absent from their duties during working hours, said the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday.

A total of eleven enforcement teams of the ACC conducted sudden drives at eleven hospitals and several health centres in eight districts across the country.

They conducted the drives after receiving multiple complaints from consumers on their hotline 106.

The teams carried out the drives from 9:00am to 2:00pm on the day as per the directives of Muhammad Munir Chowdhury, director general (administration) of the anti-graft watchdog.

Munir Chowdhury said such debauchment in the health sector is saddening and regrettable.

The ACC will take stern action against those who show irresponsibility in discharging their duties, he said, adding that it will intensify  surveillance on the health sector in future.
