A Bangladeshi has been named as one of the world’s 100 most influential people in climate change policy for 2019.

Dr Saleemul Huq, the director of International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), was again ranked 19th on the top 20 of the prestigious list.

The youngest ever US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also lead advocate of the Green New Deal, topped the list overall.

Apolitical, a global network for government helping public servants find the ideas, people and partners they need to solve the hardest challenges, made the announcement on its official website on Wednesday night.

A senior fellow at the International Institute for Environment and Development, Huq has been a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

He was awarded the Burtoni Award in 2006, recognising his outstanding contributions to the science of adaptation to climate change.
