Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has said the young generation should take tougher stance against corruption for building a beautiful Bangladesh.

The chief justice came up with the statement at a discussion arranged by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) marking the International Day against Corruption at Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka on Sunday, reports BSS.

“The country must be freed from corruption if the young generation or students take a bold stance against graft with utilising their inherent power,” he said.

Recalling contributions of the students in every democratic movement, he said, “The voice of the students, which will lead the nation in future, should be raised against corruption as well as to establish the rule of law and human rights.”

“The dream and spirit of the Liberation War are being disrespected with reaching corruption in every sphere in the society. The young generation is the best resource to change the situation," the chief justice said.

He urged the students to take part in the anti-corruption campaign with immense commitment and creativity for building a beautiful Bangladesh.

ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmud announced inauguration of the International Day against Corruption with releasing pigeons, the symbol of peace, and festoon in front of its Segunbagicha headquarters in Dhaka

Mahmud later unveiled the mass signature campaign and display of posters and cartoons against corruption with putting his own signature on the registrar book, which will remain available at ACC Media Centre from December 9 to 14 for collecting signature of the masses.

The ACC chief with its commissioners Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan and AFM Aminul Islam earlier hoisted the national and the commission’s flag. They later took part in a human chain.

Speaking on the occasion, the ACC chairman said, “It will not be possible for ACC to prevent the corruption alone. A collective effort with participation of all professionals, students, teachers, young and old generations is needed to raise a social movement against corruption to put an end to the menace.”
