Cops recover bodies of man, woman in Savar

The bodies of an 18-year-old woman and an unidentified man were recovered by police from two separate places in Savar.

The bodies were recovered in the early hours of Monday from the upazila’s Joynabari Uttarpara area in Hemayetpur and Turag River in Aminbazar of Savar, according to the police.

One of the dead has been identified as Roksana Akhter Ratna, the daughter of Hazrat Ali from Joynabari area. She was a student at Mofazzal-Momena Chakladar Mohila College.

The man is approximately 20-year-old, but has yet to be identified by police.

The family members of Ratna reported her death to police after they found her hanged. Her body was later recovered by law enforcers, said Shymal Kumar, sub-inspector of Savar Model Police Station.

An initial investigation suggests Ratna had hung herself at some point in the night. No motive has been confirmed for the apparent suicide.

The man’s body was found when locals spotted it floating in the Turag River with his arms and legs tied and reported it to police. The body was later recovered, reports bdnews24.

“The perpetrators killed him at some point in the night and tossed his body into the river,” said SI Shymal.

The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospitals for autopsies.
