Around one hundred honey hunters in Manikganj are passing a very busy time in collecting honey from the blooming flowers of mustard.

Commercial honey collectors from all seven upazilas of the district are gathering at the mustard fields with their bee boxes every day.

Abdul Gafur (56), who came from Sirajganj with his young son, said they are expecting to collect at least twenty mounds of honey during this winter season.

They have been collecting honey from Manikganj since last ten years and taken honey collection as their seasonal profession, he added.

All of the honey collectors from outside of the district including Jamalpur, Gazipur, Pabna, Satkhira, Narayanganj, Kushtia and Sirajganj have already started collecting honey from the mustard lands, says a BSS report.

Department of Agriculture Extension office sources said bees help pollinate flying from flower to flowers which can help increase about 15% production.

About 35 metric tonnes of honey are expected to be collected from the region during the current season.

The hunters started collecting honey from the last week of November and they will continue up to 2nd week of January.
