Warrants have been issued against Apan Jewellers owners Dildar Ahmed and his brother Azad Ahmed in two cases of money laundering and illegally acquiring wealth.
Earlier, Dildar Ahmed’s son Shafat Ahmed was arrested over charges of raping two university girls at a Banani hotel.

The warrants were issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on Sunday evening, said the court’s General Registration Officer (Gulshan Branch) SI Farid Miah, according to a bdnews24.com report.

Dildar and Azad co-own Apan Jewellers with their brother Gulzar Ahmed. Gulzar is also facing cases of money laundering and illegal acquisition of wealth.

The Customs Intelligence and investigation Division, or CIID, began investigating Apan Jewellers soon after the rape case was filed against Shafat Ahmed last May.

The CIID has also accused the Apan Jewellers owners of illegally smuggling in gold, jewellery, and diamonds.

Customs has seized a significant amount of the assets from Apan Jewellers, which has been unable to provide proper documentation for them.

Warrants were previously issued against Dildar and Azad in the cases. On Aug 22, the High Court granted the two bails for four weeks.

At the end of the four weeks on Sunday, the suspects’ lawyers requested an extension of the bail, but the request was scrapped by the court, which then issued the warrants
