Explosion at Panthapath hotel: Another ‘militant’ held

Law enforcers have arrested a top leader of banned militant outfit Neo-JMB over the explosion at hotel Olio International in Panthapath of Dhaka on August 15 last year.

A joint team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, intelligence wing of Police headquarters and Bogra district police arrested the 'militant', Mamun.

Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman said the law enforcers conducted a drive in house building area of Uttara sector 7 around 7 pm on Sunday to arrest the 21-year-old, a Surah member of Neo JMB,

During primary interrogation, Mamun confessed that he is a bomb-making expert and was one of those who had planned to carry out a militant attack.

Earlier on August 15, police conducted an anti-militant drive "August Bite" at the hotel and prevented a possible attack on those marching towards Dhanmondi road No 32, marking the Mourning Day.

Saiful Islam, son of Abul Khayer of Dumuria upazila in Khulna, was killed in the drive, says UNB.

On August 16, a case was filed in the connection. Investigation report said arrested Tanvir Yeasin Karin and fugitive Akram Hossain Khan Niloy are the mastermind and fund provider, both of them are top leaders of banned Islamic militant outfit Neo-JMB.
