A man has been killed in an alleged shootout with RAB in Munshiganj’s Sreenagar amid the anti-drug crackdown across Bangladesh.

The shootout occurred in the Chatrabhog area around 4:30 am on Sunday, said RAB-11 Bhagyakul Camp Company Commander ASP Mahitul Islam.

The deceased has been identified as Md Sohrab Hossain, who was believed to be a drug trafficker and a ‘top criminal’ on the police wanted list. He was accused in 13 cases, including charges of murder, robbery, kidnapping and attacking law enforcers.

A RAB team conducted the raid after receiving a tip regarding illegal transaction in the Chatrabhog area, said Mahitul Islam.

“The drug dealers opened fire when they detected the RAB presence. RAB returned fire. Three to four of them fled at one point during the gunfight. A body was found at the scene afterwards. We made inquiries and discovered that he was top Sreenagar criminal Md Sohrab Hossain.”

ASP Mahitul said that RAB ASI Rezaul Islam and Sepoy Md Quamruzzaman were injured in the incident and received treatment at the Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex, said a bdnews24 report.

A pistol, a bullet, 600 yaba tablets and Tk 10,500 have been recovered from the scene.
