A suspected thief was killed in a lynch-mob attack at Char Uria village in Noakhali Sadar upazila in the early hours of Saturday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.
Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Noakhali Sadar Police Station, said a gang of thieves swooped on the house of Malek of the village at around 3am.
Sensing presence of the thieves, local people encircled the house and managed to catch one of the thieves while the others managed to flee.
Later, local people gave the 'thief' a good thrashing, leaving him critically injured, according to a UNB report.
He was taken to Noakhali General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
