Police have identified the man who set fire to a vehicle of theirs during a clash that erupted between BNP men and law enforcers in front of the party’s Naya Paltan office in Dhaka city on Wednesday.

The suspect is Shahjalal Khandaker, a member of the convening committee of the city’s Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Paltan unit, Paltan Police Station’s on-duty police officer told the FE on Thursday morning.

According to police, a clash ensued as they tried to clear the road in front of the party office.

Around 50 people, including several policemen, were injured in the clash.

Police and BNP men blamed each other for inciting the untoward incident.
