Suspected drug pedlar dies in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with the law enforcers in Jaliapara area of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Mostak Ahmed, 32, son of Jakir Hossain of the area.

A team of police arrested Mostak on Saturday night. Following his information, police in association with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted the drive in the area around 5 am to recover arms and drugs, said Lt Col Mohammad Asaduzzaman Chowdhury, commanding officer of BGB-2 battalion.

When the team reached the area, cohorts of Mostak opened fire on the team to snatch him away, prompting the law enforcers to fire back, triggering the gunfight, UNB reported.

The gunfight left Mostak dead on the spot.

Later, the team recovered 10,000 pieces of Yaba tablets and arms from the spot.
