Suspected drug trader stabs policeman in Sylhet

A suspected drug trader stabbed a policeman with a sharp weapon in a chase during a drive in Sylhet on Friday.

The victim was identified as Assistant Sub-inspector Abdul Mannan of Detective Branch of Police.

The team, however, managed to detain the culprit Md Salim, said Saiful Alam, officer-in-charge of Sylhet district DB Police.

Police sources said a team of detectives headed by Sub-inspector Abdul Mannan conducted a drive at Jaflong in Goainghat upazila in the afternoon and caught Salim red-handed while he was selling drugs.

After being detained, Salim untied himself from the police grip and then took a machete from the kitchen of a nearby house and stabbed the cop in a bid to escape, leaving Mannan severely injured, UNB reported.

Mannan was taken to Jaintapur Health Complex for treatment.
