Two get life for possessing heroin in Rajshahi

A court in Rajshahi on Wednesday sentenced two persons to life imprisonment for possessing heroin.

The convicts were identified as Mohir Uddin, 37, son of Shamsuddin of Sorlapara village of Tanore Upazila and Rabiul Islam, 35, son of Abdur Rashid of Bhatopara village under the same upazila of the district.

Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Tribunal Judge Shirin Kabita Akhter found them guilty of the charges and pronounced the verdict with the convicts in the dock.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer two months more behind the bars.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that a police team arrested Mohir Uddin and Rabiul Islam with 600 grams of heroin after searching a passenger bus in Sarmangla area under Godagari Upazila in the district on August 20, 2016.

Later, a case was filed following the seizure.

After completion of investigation, police pressed charges accusing them, reports BSS.

Special Public Prosecutor Entajul Haque Babu conducted the case on behalf of the state while Advocate Nazmul Haque Mintu defended the accused.
