The body of a field worker for a private moneylender organisation Asha has been found seven days after she went missing in Dhaka’s Savar.

Police say she was killed by a couple who had borrowed from the organisation.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Sabina Yasmin Urmi, who lived with her husband in Ashulia with her husband Jahid Hassan and worked as an Asha field worker.

A couple was detained and the body found based on their confession, said Ashulia Police Station SI Ashraful Alam.

The arrestees are Moslem Hossain, 38, and his wife Razia Akhtar, 35. Both are Asha customers.

Sabina went missing after going to Moslem’s home to collect on the loan, SI Alam said. Her mobile phone was turned off. The Asha authority filed a general diary with the police that night.

“Her phone was last used near Moslem’s house. After an investigation Moslem and his wife were arrested. They confessed to the murder when questioned.”

Urmi’s body was recovered based on information from the suspects. Moslem accompanied the team who found the body.

Moslem had borrowed nearly Tk 100,000 from Asha a few months ago. He said Urmi had been putting pressure on them after they failed to pay their instalments.

“Last Wednesday Sabina went to Moslem’s house to collect the instalment. Moslem and his wife, alongside a few others, lay in wait for her and then strangled her with a rope. The body was put into a drum. Around 1am they left the house and buried the body in a hedge nearly a kilometre away.”

Sabine had collected nearly Tk 200,000 that day from various borrowers, which has since gone missing, the Asha authority told police.

Police are looking to arrest others involved in the murder, reports bdnews24.
