Cultivators busy harvesting Khesari

GOPALGANJ, Mar 04: The farmers of Fukra union under Kasiani upazila in the district are busy harvesting Khesari pulses.

Some farmers of the area said Khesari farming is profitable for its low production cost.

Moreover, farmers can harvest the crop after 110 days of its cultivation.

Farmer SM Shariful Islam of Fukra village said he has achieved plentiful yield this year.

"I got 70 maunds of pulses from 364 decimals of land, the market price of which is around Tk 63,000. My total production cost was Tk 28,000."

Inchhanur Rahman, sub-assistant agriculture officer of DAE, Khesari cultivation is popular in the area.

Cultivators grow the item as a Rabi crop, the official added.

Another farmer Mizanur Rahman said he cultivated BARI-6 Khesari on his 156 decimals of land this season.

The grower said he expects around 30 maunds of the pulses while his total production cost was Tk 12,000.

Upazila agriculture officer Rasamoy Mondal said Khesari harvest is going on in full swing in the area.

A large section of farmers in the upazila make handsome profit by growing the crop every year, the official further said.
