‘Drug trader’ dies in ‘shootout’ with police in Bhairab

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Gachtalaghat in Bhairab Municipality area early Thursday.

According to the reports, with this recent skirmish, some 110 people were killed during 'shootouts' with members of law enforcement agencies while 33 bodies of drug pedlars were recovered after reported gun battle among rival groups since May 15.

The deceased Selim Mia, son of Syed Mia of Panchabati area, was wanted in ten cases, said Mokhlesur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bhairab Police Station.

Being informed over an ongoing transaction between drug suspects in the area a team of police conducted a drill, he said.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the culprits fired gunshots at police while the law enforcers fired back in retaliation triggering the shootout, leaving Selim dead on the spot.

Police also recovered one pistol, 510 pieces of Yaba tablets and 24 bottles of Phensidyl from the spot, reports UNB.
