The government is training its officials in the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) ahead of the March 31 upazila polls in Bagerhat.

EVMs will be used in all polling stations in Sadar Upazila, reports UNB.

The training is underway at Khan Jahan Ali Degree College and will continue until March 28, said Md Jahirul Islam, additional deputy commissioner and returning officer of five upazila parishads.

"EVMs will be used in 91 polling stations in the upazila," he said.

Bagerhat Election Officer and Returning Officer of four upazilas Farazi Benzir Ahmed said they are also showing voters how to use EVMs.

Awami League candidate Sardar Nasir Uddin and female vice-chairperson aspirant Rizia Parvin have been elected uncontested in the Sadar Upazila.

Voters will choose a male vice-chairman from among four candidates.

On Sunday, the third phase of the election was held in 117 upazilas amid sporadic violence and allegations of vote rigging and other irregularities.

The first and second phase elections were held on March 10 and March 18 respectively, while the fourth phase polls are scheduled for March 31.
