BNP leader Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury, younger brother of executed war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, has got an arrest warrant in a defamation case.

A court in Chattogram on Thursday issued an arrest warrant in a case filed over making offensive remarks against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Judge Shahidullah Kaiser, judicial magistrate of court-4, passed the order.

Nazim Uddin Mohuri, general secretary of Fatikchhari upazila Awami League, filed the case.

Three more defamation cases have been filed against him.

Besides, the court summoned Giasuddin in another case filed by Akram Hossain, a member of AL central sub-committee.

Meanwhile, the court ordered the officer-in-charge of Panchlaish Police Station to take steps for enlisting a case as FIR filed by Nurul Azam Rony, former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Chattogram city.

Earlier, Md Jamal Uddin, Chhatra League president of Fatikchhari upazila unit, filed a defamation case against 70 activists and leaders of BNP, including Giasuddin Quader, for making disparaging remarks against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday evening.

While addressing a discussion programme on the 37th death anniversary of late president Ziaur Rahman, Giasuddin said, "There was no one to say Inna Lillahi Wa Innailayhi Raji'un after the death of Bangabandhu Sheikh Muzubur Rahman. The Prime Minister's fate will be even more dangerous. She has to take the responsibility of those being killed in the name of crossfire."

He also described the Prime Minister as a threat to the country.

A group of unidentified miscreants ransacked the house of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury at Goods Hill in the port city on Wednesday night after Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury's offensive remarks against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
