Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said the government has proposed the new budget for the 2018-19 fiscal considering the interest of the people and the development of the country.

“A big budget is a big challenge. . . Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given a big budget as she has the courage to implement it,” the minister said.

The Awami League General Secretary made the remarks while replying to a query from journalists at the Meghna Launch Ghat at Sonargaon of Narayanganj.

Quader categorically the new budget was placed in parliament considering

the problems of the people of all professions and classes.

In the budget, millions of people have been brought under the social safety net coverage and priority has been given to the interest of the poor people, he added.

The new budget was proposed yesterday and it is yet to be passed, he said, adding that there will be discussions on the budget before passing it in the Jatiya Sangsad.

The AL general secretary criticized the remarks of the BNP leaders on the proposed budget.

He said, “The unrestrained remarks of BNP give the impression that the new budget has been good.”

In reply to a question, Quader said, “All necessary preparations have been taken to ensure smooth journey on the roads and highways for the home-goers during the Eid vacation.”

He said the ferry services on the Meghna River will resume on June 12 while on Gomti river before the Eid-ul-Azha after the necessary dredging work in the river.
