A man came to the police station in Dhaka’s Ashulia holding a bloody machete to turn himself in after slitting the throat of his older brother over a land dispute.

The incident occurred in the Kaichabari area at around 9:00 pm, said Ashulia Police Station Inspector Jabed Masud.

The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Abu Taher. He was killed by his brother, 26-year-old Jahed Ali.

According to their sister Hasina Begum, Abu Taher wanted to sell a percentage of the land they inherited so he could travel abroad. The two brothers had been arguing for several days over the matter.

Three days ago, Taher sold the land to a neighbour and took an advance of Tk 100,000. He then spent Tk 30,000 and gave the remaining Tk 70,000 to his mother.

On Saturday night, once Taher fell asleep, Jahed entered his room with a machete and hacked him to death, Hasina Begum said.

Jahed then turned up to the police station suddenly wearing blood-soaked clothes and holding a bloody machete, said Ashulia Police Station Inspector Jabed Masud. Police later recovered the body, bdnews24 reported.

“He said his name was Jahed Ali and that he had just killed his brother. We arrested him. Later we went to the home and confirmed the truth of his statement.”

A murder case is being prepared at the Ashulia Police Station.
