Dhaka, Jamalpur courts issue arrest warrant

Journalist Masuda Bhatti has filed a defamation case against Barrister Mainul Hosein for hurling abusive words at her in a television talk show.

Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur issued an arrest warrant against Mainul after recording the statement of Masuda Bhatti on Sunday.

The court also fixed November 22 for submission of the records regarding the arrest of Barrister Mainul, reports UNB.

Earlier in the day, Masuda Bhatti filed a defamation case against Mainul Hosein in this connection.

Earlier, a Jamalpur court issued a warrant for the arrest of Barrister Mainul Hosein in a defamation case.

Judge Solaiman Kabir of Jamalpur Cognizance Court issued the warrant after hearing on the case. Farzana Yasmin Lita, convener of Jamalpur district unit Jubo Mohila League, filed a Tk 200.00 billion defamation case against Mainul.

According to the case statement, Mainul who was connected to a talk show programme 'Ekattorer Journal' through a videoconference aired on a private TV channel, Ekattor TV, hosted by Mithila Farzana, made an 'offensive comment' against Masuda Bhatti on October 16. He tarnished the image of Masuda Bhatti, the statement says.

During the talk show, Masuda Bhatti told Mainul, "You say that you in the Jatiya Oikyafront as a citizen of the country but in social networking sites, many people are saying said that you are there as a representative of Jamaat."

Angered at the comment, Mainul said, "I'm thanking you for your audacity and I want to believe you as 'characterless'. There's no question about Jamaat link's with me and what question you have asked is embarrassing for me."
