An accused in a murder case was killed in a reported shootout with police in Savar in the early hours of Thursday.

The dead man was Babul Mia, 27, son of Babar Ali Munshi from Bagura district. Babul was accused of killing garment worker Mehedi Hasan.

According to Sheikh Rezaul Haq Dipu, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station, a team of police conducted a drive at Yearpur in Ashulia at around 1:30 am based on a tip-off.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, Babul Mia along with his accomplices opened fire on police, forcing them to retaliate.

At one stage, police arrested Babul with bullet injuries and took him to Savar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, UNB reported.

Mehedi Hasan, a garments worker, was killed after abduction. Police said they recovered the seven body parts of the victim from a refrigerator of a house few days ago.
