President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have congratulated Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election as the President of Turkey.

In a message sent to the Turkish President, Abdul Hamid said, “I am immensely delighted to know that the people of Turkey have re-elected you as their President for a new term. This is a clear demonstration of their confidence in your leadership. I would like to extend my warmest felicitations to you on this grand electoral success.”

He said both Bangladesh and Turkey have excellent bilateral relations based on commonalities rooted in history, culture, faith and tradition.

The President said he believed that the brotherly people of the two countries would continue their march towards peace, development and prosperity in the coming years.

“At the same time, our existing excellent relations will continue to grow from strength to strength,” he said.

President Hamid also invited Erdogan to pay a visit to Bangladesh at a mutually convenient date as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, another BSS report says, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she believes Erdogan's win  is a testimony to the trust and confidence reposed on him by Turkish people.

“Let me take this opportunity, Your Excellency, to congratulate you on this happy occasion on my own behalf as well as on behalf of my government and the people of Bangladesh,” she said in a message.

Sheikh Hasina said cultural, social and

religious ties continued between the two nations form the fountainhead of friendship and brotherhood lasting for centuries.

She expressed her hope that the people of Bangladesh and Turkey would walk hand in hand towards realising their full potential and much deserved goals of peace, development and wellbeing.

Recalling Erdogan’s personal initiative and support to the oppressed Muslim Rohingya population of Myanmar who had to flee to Bangladesh to save themselves from atrocities, she said: “We admire the role of the brotherly people and the government of Turkey to provide support to the distressed people in many different ways.”

She also hoped that with the support of the international community, the displaced Rohingyas would be able to return to their homes in Myanmar in an ensured environment of safety and security soon.

The Prime Minister also invited Erdogan to pay a visit to Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time as soon as possible.
