President returns home after treatment abroad

President M Abdul Hamid returned home on Sunday morning after an 11-day visit to London and Germany for health checkup and treatment of eyes.

“A VVIP flight (BG 202) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the President and his entourage members landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:26 am,” the President’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Dean of Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Vatican to Bangladesh Archbishop George Kocherry, British High Commissioner in Dhaka Robert Chatterton Dickson, Ambassador of Germany to Bangladesh Peter Fahrenholtz, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam, chiefs of the three services, Prime Minister Office (PMO)’s Principal Secretary, Foreign Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP) and high civil and military officials received him at the airport.

The head of the state had health checkup at Bupa Cromwell Hospital and treatment of eyes at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and another medical check-up at Frankfurt in Germany, BSS reported.

Earlier, the president left Heathrow Airport for Dhaka at 1902 hrs (London Local time). Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK) Saida Muna Tasneen and senior officials of Bangladesh Mission in London saw him off at the airport.

On May 15 last, the national flag carrier aircraft carrying the President and his entourage members left Dhaka for London.

Earlier, the 75-year-old President Hamid conducted his health check-up in London in July last year.

Hamid has been suffering from Glaucoma for a long time. He used to have his health checkup in London when he was the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament).
