Suspected drug trader dies in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with detectives in Nayanpur village of Bhaluka upazila in Mymensingh on early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Mobarak Hossain, 38, son of Miar Uddin of the village and was wanted in several criminal cases including that of drugs.

Being tipped-off that a group of drug traders were handling drugs, a team of police conducted a drive in the area, said Shah Kamal, Officer-in-Charge of Detective Branch of district police.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on them forcing them to fire back in self-defense.

At one stage, police detained Mobarak with bullet injuries and took him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead.

Two policemen sustained minor injuries during the gunfight, UNB reported citing the official.

Yaba tablets, one pistol, one pipe gun and four bullets were recovered from the spot.
