A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and DB police at Tongabari in Ashulia early Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Rubel, 26.

Police suspected that the deceased might be the key accused in driver Shahjahan murder case, reports a news agency.

On February 13 last, Shahjahan Miah, 35, driver of 'Dhaleswari Paribahan' was killed and its helper and supervisor were injured during a robbery in his bus on Nabinagar-Chandra highway in Sreepur area under Ashulia thana.

Tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive early in the morning in the area, where some robbers were preparing to commit robberies, said DB officer-in-charge AFM Sayed.

Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate, which triggered the gunfight.

At one stage, Rubel was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while others managed to flee the scene.

Police later recovered the body and sent it to sadar hospital for autopsy.
