‘Zero tolerance against corruption at BRTC to be strictly followed’

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said “Zero Tolerance Policy against Corruption” will be strictly followed at the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC).

“Zero tolerance against corruption to be maintained at BRTC,” he told a view-exchange meeting with the BRTC officials and its depot managers at BRTC building in the capital’s Motijheel area, reports BSS.

Quader, also Awami League general secretary, said more 600 buses and 500 trucks will be added to the BRTC fleet by April next. This will help increase capacity of the BRTC as well expand opportunity of passengers’ transportation, he added.

The minister asked all concerned of the BRTC to work with new vigour and zeal to make the state-owned organisation a profitable one.

Quader also directed the BRTC authority to take necessary measures to increase manpower for the organisation.

The minister said software-based digital management system is being introduced at BRTC activities to ensure transparency and collect revenue.

“This system, on a test case, has already been introduced at Kalyanpur, Motijheel and Gabtolly depots,” he said, adding that this would help reduce malpractice and increase quality of services as well.

Replying to a query on BNP secretary general’s recent remark, the AL general secretary said, “It seems to me that BNP didn’t take any lesson from the past.”

About the upcoming upazila election, he said BNP has the right to take part in the polls. “BNP itself will take decision to this end,” he added.
