15,000km river routes to be dredged

State for Minister Water Resources Zaheed Farooque on Tuesday told the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) that about 15,000 kilometres of river routes will be dredged under a rivers re-excavation project.

“A total of 2,000 small rivers, cannels and wetlands will be re-excavated under the second phase of the Inland Small Rivers, Cannels and Lacks Re-excavation Project across the country. Total length of the river routes under the second phase will be 15000 kilometres,” he informed the House.

Farooque was replying a starred question made by treasury bench lawmaker Md Mamunur Rashid Kiron in the House.

Detailed Project Profile (DPP) of the second phase of the project involving Tk 100 billion is underway, he informed, reports BSS.

Besides, a total of 448 small rivers, cannels and water bodies across the country are being re- excavated under the first phase of the project to bring back their navigability, control floods and remove water logging, the minister said.
