Around 1,950 metres of the much-hyped Padma bridge is now visible with the installation of the 13th span on Saturday.

The 150-metre span weighing 3,140 tonnes was installed on pillars no 14 and 15 around 10:25am, local media reports say.

The 6.15-kilometre Padma Multipurpose Bridge started becoming visible for the first time with the installation of the first of its 41 spans, each of which has a 150-metre length, in October 2017.

The construction of the mega structure, which started in December 2015, is projected to be complete by December 2020.

The government hopes that once the construction of the Padma bridge is done, it will increase the country's GDP (gross domestic product) by 1.2 per cent.
