Bazlur Rahman Foundation (BRF) on Saturday donated Tk 200,000 to Dhaka Shishu Hospital (DSH) Thalassemia Centre in Dhaka.

BRF Chairman Khandaker Ibrahim Malek handed over a cheque for the amount to DSH Managing Board Chairperson National Prof Dr Shahla Khatun at a function at DSH auditorium in the capital today morning.

Late Bazlur Rahman’s spouse and Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury was present on the occasion. DSH Director Professor Dr Md Abdul Aziz presided over the function.

Social Welfare Ministry Additional Secretary Khandoker Atiar Rahman, Holy Family Medical College former Principal Professor Dr Md Moniruzzaman Bhuiyan, Deputy Attorney General Advocate Md Motaher Hossain and The Dailly Sangbad Managing Editor Abul Kashem Humayun addressed the function, among others.

They said Thalassemia is the most common congenital disorder in Bangladesh. Thalassemia treatment facilities are limited in the country due to high cost of drugs and limited availability of blood for transfusion, they added.

Many children with the disease die in their teens, as they cannot afford the expenses and lifelong treatment, the speakers said and urged all to come forward to solve the problem, BSS reported.

Bazlur Rahman Foundation has been formed to preserve the memory of late Bazlur Rahman, former editor of the Sangbad.
