Bangladesh is not the fourth largest source of foreign remittance for India, clarified Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Wednesday.

He claimed that the information that India receives $4.0 billion as remittance from Bangladesh is not correct.

He made the statement when delivering speech as special guest at the opening ceremony of a four-day international exhibition on textile at the International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital.

Prior to Shringla’s speech, FBCCI president Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) in his speech as special guest said that Bangladesh is the fourth largest source of foreign remittance for India amounting to $4.0 billion.

Harsh Vardhan Shringla also mentioned that a reputed Indian research firm Pew Research had displayed the false information on their website after being hit by a cyber attack.

Speaker to the National Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury inaugurated three expositions as the chief guest.

The expositions, 19th Textech Bangladesh International Expo, 14th Dhaka International Yarn and Fabric Show and 33th DyeChem Bangladesh Expo 2018, began to showcase the latest products and emerging technologies in the textile and garment industry.

The Conference and Exhibition Management Services Ltd (CEMS-Global) organised the expos which will  remain open from 10.30am to 7.30pm until Saturday.
