Interpol chief missing, French police launch investigation

French police have reportedly started an investigation after Meng Hongwei, the chief of the Interpol, was reported missing.

Meng Hongwei, a former Chinese government minister, was reported missing after travelling to his native country last week.

The 64-year-old lives in Lyon of France with his wife and children, who have not heard from him since he left for China on 29 September, reports The Independent.

French police sources said Meng's family were unable to contact him or locate his whereabouts.

Meng was elected president of Interpol in November 2016.
