SAARC Film Festival begins in Colombo

'Khaacha', 'Haldaa' to be screened

The 8th edition of SAARC Film Festival began in Colombo, capital of Sri Lanka, on Tuesday.

The six-day long festival, organised by the SAARC Cultural Centre, will continue till May 27, reports UNB.

Akram Khan directed 'Khaacha' will be screened on Wednesday while Akhi and her friend and Tauquir Ahmed directed 'Haldaa' are scheduled to be screened on May 25 and 26.

A total of five films including the full length and short length will be screened during the festival as well as will compete in SAARC Film Awards 2018.

Two full-length films-Haldaa and Khaacha have been selected from Bangladesh in 'Feature Films' category while noted director Morshedul Islam's 'Akhi O Taar Bondhura' has been selected in the 'Master Films' category.

'Kaalo Megher Bhelai' and 'Daag' will compete in the short films category, said Monjurul Islam Megh, communication coordinator SAARC film festival (Bangladesh).

The SAARC Film Awards 2018 will be presented on May 27 after being selected by a panel of jury comprising of the members from non-SAARC countries.

The prizes are: Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress Best Cinematographer, Best Editor, Best Sound Designer, Best Original Score and Two Special Jury Awards.

The festival will include a workshop with international experts as well as additional peripheral events that would enhance the experience of South Asian cinema.

The film festival will focus on films which were first screened after May 2016, from all member states.

Bangladeshi director Tauquir Ahmed's Oggyatonama won the Best Screenplay Award at the seventh edition of SAARC Film Festival last year.
