World Congress of Accountants ends today

Thrust on shaping the future roles of accounting profession

The World Congress of Accountants 2018 ends today (Thursday) in Sydney. 

The 4-day conference began on Monday in the Australian city.

WCOA is the premier accounting conference for the global business and finance community and brought together more than 6,000 delegates from over 130 countries to hear world-class speakers and leaders from the finance and business community.

The Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and CPA Australia co-hosted the twentieth WCOA, said a statement issued by ICAB.

From Bangladesh an expert team led by Dewan Nurul Islam FCA, President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) participated in the conference. He also delivered a speech in the conference.

ICAB Past Presidents and Council Members Akhtar Sohel Kasem FCA, Anwaruddin Chowdhury FCA, ASM Nayeem FCA, M Farhad Hussain FCA, Md. Humayun Kabir FCA and Director (Technical) Mahbub Ahmed Siddique FCA also took part in the event.

All the sessions of the conference embraced the core themes trust, ethics, diversity, sustainability and new technologies which poised to shape the future roles of accounting profession. The conference papers catered for all disciplines of finance and accounting including audit, bookkeeping, financial reporting, etc.

The Keynote 1 on financial upheavals challenging global economic order presented by Niall Forguson, Professor of History at Harvard & Senior Research Fellow, Jesus College, Oxford, Hoover Institution, Stanford University and the Keynote 2: The death of trust-accounting scandals that shocked the world was presented jointly by Michael Woodford MBE, Former CEO of Olympus Corporation and Diana B. Henriques, New York Times Best Selling Author.

The Keynote: 3 focused on the digital factor: AI, automation and the opportunity was presented by Ayesha Khanna, Co-Founder and CEO of ADDO AI and the Keynote 4: the human factor: Harnessing creativity and innovation presented by Sir Ken Robinson, Author of Creative Schools.

Tony Jones, Australian Journalist of ABC, Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary General of the UN & President & Chair, Global Green Institute, Alison Martin, Group Chief Risk Officer of Zurich Insurance Group, Koren Elazari, Analyst, Author and Senior Researcher of Blavatnik Interdisciplinary Cyber Research Center, Tel Aviv University and Yanis Varoofakis, Economist & Former Minister of Finance, Greece were the facilitators in the discussion on Keynote 5: Global risks and 'future shocks' on last day of the conference on Thursday while the Keynote-6 titled as 'the Future-proof your career-trends, skills, mindsets and behaviours'.

All the sessions catered to all accounting and finance disciplines. From interactive sessions to panel discussions, globally renowned experts shared best practices and put insightful thrust on the pertinent issues.

The 2018 WCOA is being held against the backdrop of an uncertain economic landscape, where most countries are still finding their way back to solid financial ground.
