The nature of Eid greetings has drastically changed now as most people turn to social media platforms for reaching out to each other instead of sharing it with cards.

Apart from exchanging greetings, they also demonstrate themselves with non-stop messages and social media updates flooding the cyber world.

Social media sites and instant messaging apps, including the Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Whatsapp, have been flooded with ‘Eid Mubarak’ greetings for a couple of days before the Eid day.

Wishing someone ‘Eid Mubarak’ by visiting the houses of relatives and friends and exchange of greetings over telephone used to be the main ways of exchange of greetings.

Instead of reaching out to people one by one, netizens now tend to post a Ramadan or Eid greetings on the walls of their respective social media pages.

With the change of time, the nature of celebrating the festival has also got a touch of change as the new technology makes people self-centric.

Social media user Nusrat Zahan said the social media has replaced the person-to-person interaction with group messaging, exchanging Eid hugs and handwritten greeting cards with a few clicks on their PCs or mobile phones.

Tanvir Kaiser, another social media user of Dhaka, said, “The day before Eid, my friends also made posts to greet me and others, but I feel technology can never take the place of direct human interaction.”

However, he said social media have made things easier to reach out to the people who are living abroad or far away and also a way to show and share the excitement of Eid celebrations, UNB reported.

To celebrate various festivals, social media have designed many cards and animations. Similarly, social media giant Facebook has also created a special Eid card for its users to wish their close ones.
