DSE turnover exceeds Tk 6.0 billion-mark

Stocks edged higher on Sunday with turnover on the major bourse crossing Tk 6.0 billion-mark after nearly two months as optimistic investors showed their buying appetite on sector-wise stocks.

Market operators said the market maintained the positive trend as investors started to exhibit their active participation as they regained confidence riding on various steps taken by the government to ease the ongoing liquidity crunch.

Following the previous week’s largest gain, the market opened higher and key index of the major bourse soared about 47 points within first 30 minutes of trading.

However, rest of the session index eroded half of the gained points and finally ended more than 24 points higher.

DSEX, the core index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), settled at 5,865, gaining 24.19 points or 0.41 per cent over the previous session.

The two other indices also edged higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 4.45 points or 0.20 per cent to finish at 2,199. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 2.62 points or 0.19 per cent to close at 1,359.

The market activities also increased and the total turnover on the DSE amounted to Tk 6.22 billion, which was 8.74 per cent higher than the previous day’s Tk 5.72 billion.

The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 334 issues traded, 164 closed higher, 134 ended lower and 36 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Beximco topped the day’s turnover chart with 11.04 million shares worth Tk 325 changing hands, followed by Alif Industries, BRAC Bank, Unique Hotel & Resorts and Monno Ceramic Industries.

Alif Indutsries was also the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 8.30 per cent while Northern Jute Manufacturing was the day’s worst loser, shedding 7.19 per cent.

Port city bourse CSE also ended higher with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – gaining 70 points to settle at 18,088 and Selective Categories Index - CSCX –advancing 40 points to finish at 10,932 points.

Here too, the gainers beat the losers as 141 issues closed higher, 71 loser and 22 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 10.87 million shares and mutual fund units worth more than Tk 308 million in turnover.
