Deal signed to appoint consultant for Payra Port’s first terminal

The government on Tuesday signed a deal with a joint venture of three Korean companies to appoint a consultant for Payra Port's first terminal.

The three companies are - Kunhwa Engineering and Consulting Co Ltd, Daeyoung Engineering Company Limited, and Hareem Architect and Planners Company Limited of South Korea.

Commodore M Jahangir Alam, chairman of Payra Port Authority, signed the agreement on behalf of Bangladesh while Jeong Laenoh, president of Kunhwa Engineering and Consulting Co Ltd, Dae Jinkim, director of Daeyoung Engineering Company Limited and Eun Sangjo, country director of Hareem Architect and Planners Company Limited of South Korea represented the joint venture. Shipping Secretary Md Abdus Samad was also present during the signing ceremony.

For implementation of the project, consultant's work will be completed by a single team with some sub-teams.

The three companies will work as main supervisor while Bangladeshi company Symbiotic Architect will work as sub-supervisor, says a UNB report.

The work of consultancy has been divided into two phases - design and supervision. The total cost of the deal is estimated at Tk 795.2 million.

Besides, it will take 36 months to complete their works (six months in design phase and 30 months in supervision phase).
