Chinese ambassador Ma Mingqiang has said that a large inexpensive labour force and geographic location have increased Bangladesh’s possibility of becoming a manufacturing hub.

"You (Bangladesh) have big potentials of becoming a manufacturing hub. Because, you are enjoying a huge inexpensive labour force," said the Chinese envoy to Bangladesh, adding that the country is also geographically well positioned.

The Chinese ambassador made the remarks while addressing a forum on 'China Experience and Bangladesh Development' in a city hotel on Wednesday, reports UNB.

Ma Mingqiang said Chinese businessmen are now coming to invest in Bangladesh as it has potentials.

"We've all potentials of having Bangladesh as the number-1 partner for China in the near future in the South Asia (in terms of providing Chinese investment)," he said.

"We are targeting for more spaces in your economic zones...Bangladesh will have more Chinese investment facilities," he added.

The Chinese Embassy organised the forum where representatives of Bangladeshi trainees who underwent 2017 China ODA training programmes had a reunion.

The trainees shared their presentations on promoting the economic and social development in Bangladesh by learning from China experience and enhancing the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in relevant fields.

About the training programes, the Chinese ambassador said this year some 840 Bangladeshi officials at various levels went to China to participate in training programes.

Noting that now some 3,000 Bangladeshi students are studying in China, Ma Mingqiang hoped that more Bangladeshi students will go to China getting Chinese scholarships in the future.

ERD Secretary Kazi Shofiqul Azam also addressed the event.
