Walton, a leading local electronics manufacturer, signed a deal with global online shopping platform amazon.com on Thursday to sell its products across the world.

However, the Walton brand desktop computers, laptops, mobile phones and home appliances will primarily be available in the United States via Amazon.

Amazon Bangladesh Country Manager Shashank Pandey and Walton Group Executive Director and CEO (Computer Products Division) Liakat Ali signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations at the Walton corporate office in the city's Bashundhara residential area.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak was present as the chief guest at the programme while Walton Hi-Tech Industries Vice-Chairman SM Shamsul Alam, Managing Director SM Ashraful Alam, Walton Corporation Chairman SM Mahbubul Alam, Walton DG-Tech Industries Chairman SM Rezaul Alam, and Walton Group's international business President Edward Kim were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the programme, Mr Palak said this is a historic day for not only Walton but the country as 'made in Bangladesh' products are going to the American market.

"I consider Walton not a private company but our national pride. They are making a significant contribution to the economy and they are our partner in making Digital Bangladesh," he said

The state minister also said Walton has come this far as the government had provided the local electronics manufacturing industries policy support and tax exemptions on import of raw materials and electronic components.

Mr Kim said Walton's target is to build a strong position in the global market through exporting locally made products worth of US$ 1.0 billion in the near future.

Referring that products of Walton are now exported to 22 countries, he said the deal with Amazon will allow Walton to sell its products in American market which will pave the way for the company to become one of the top brands in the world by 2030.

Walton authority also unveiled a new model of laptop named Tamarind EX on the occasion.
