No tsunami threat to New Zealand after 7.2 quake hits Kermadec Islands

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake rattled the Kermadec Islands of New Zealand at 10:55am on Sunday (local time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The epicentre, which struck at a depth of 20 km, was monitored at 30.80 degrees south latitude and 178.10 degrees west longitude, Xinhua reported quoting the CENC.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management of New Zealand has cleared the country of a tsunami threat minutes after issuing a beach warning following the earthquake, according to a New Zealand Herald report.
