Citizen's platform for SDGs, Bangladesh on Saturday will hold a citizens conclave in the capital on the country's four years of engagement with the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

The day-long programme will be held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka's Agargaon.

Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD)'s Distinguished Fellow Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, who is convener of the platform, will preside over the event that will span from 9:00am to 5:15pm.

An initiative of non-state actors of the country with representation from more than hundred non-government and civil society organisations and the private sector,  the platform seeks to contribute towards implementation of the SDGs in Bangladesh, and support the ongoing government efforts in this connection, according to a press release received on Thursday.

Keeping in view the upcoming High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), to be held in July 2019 in New York, which will be followed by a Summit-level HLPF in September 2019, it has planned the event to draw inputs from the non-state actors of Bangladesh.

The theme of the HLPF 2019 is 'Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality'.

The six goals which will be reviewed at the forum are: goal 4: quality education, goal 8: decent work and economic growth, goal 10: reduced inequality, goal 13: climate action, goal 16: peace, justice and strong institutions, and goal 17: partnerships for the goals.

The day-long citizens conclave has been designed around the specific goals of the HLPF 2019, with the following objectives: (a) assess Bangladesh’s progress in the selected six goal areas, (b) capture the lessons learnt from SDG implementation experience and best practices, and the challenges in this connection, and (c) identify the way forward towards more effective delivery of the SDGs.

Six goal-specific review reports will be presented at various sessions of the conclave, prepared by six Goal Groups (GGs), which include partner organisations of the platform and beyond, with expertise and interests in the respective areas of the selected SDGs. An overview report on four years of SDG implementation in Bangladesh will also be shared at the conclave.

The underlying objective of the conclave is to generate an outcome document, which will be presented at a side-event in the global HLPF process.
