Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has laid emphasis on signing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with South Korea in order to boost the trade and investment of the two countries.

"South Korea is a friend of Bangladesh and the country is an important business partner. Bangladesh has long trade and economic relations with South Korea. Several South Korean companies in the garment, electronics, and other sectors are operating in the country," he said on Sunday.

The minister said this during a meeting with the South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Lee Jang- Keun at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka, reports BSS citing a press release.

During the meeting, Tipu said there is an opportunity to increase this investment and trade between the two countries.

Bangladeshi-made garments are being exported to South Korea and there are many opportunities to increase the exports to South Korea, he added.

Lee Jang- Keun said Bangladesh has achieved remarkable success in the last 10 years and the development of the country is now visible.

He said a number of Korean companies are working in various sectors of Bangladesh, including readymade garments and electronic products.

The South Korean envoy said that Bangladesh has successfully tackled the Covid-19 situation.
