IGCC to organise musical evening of ‘Nazrulgeeti’ on Saturday

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) will organise an evening of ‘Nazrulgeeti’ on Saturday at 6:30pm at Kobi Sufia Kamal Auditorium in Bangladesh National Museum in city’s Shahbagh area.

Renowned Nazrul exponent Fatema Tuz Zohra and classical singer Kamalesh Kumar Das will perform at the musical event of Pohela Boishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year on April 14.

Fatema Tuz Zohra is a versatile singer of Bangladesh renowned nationally and internationally especially for Nazrul Sangeet. Her father, late Dr Syed Farid Uddin and mother, Ms Fazilatunnesa were both known social workers.

Fatema was initiated to music at a very early age with inspiration from her family and got many awards and achievements since her student life. She completed her graduation from Rajshahi University.

For her remarkable contribution to music, Fatema achieved the ‘Ekushey Padak-2006’ the highest national award of the country.

Beside this, she has got many other awards - Sher-e-Bangla Padak, Bir Srestha Padak, Nazrul Academy Padak, National press club award etc.

She has been performing regularly in national Radio and TV channels since 1975 in Bangladesh and abroad as well. 17 of her music albums have been released.

Besides regularly performing in Bangladesh, Fatema has given many performances in many counties of Asia, Middle-east, Europe, North America and Australia.

She has written five novels and also regularly writes in magazines and newspapers on music and other social contemporary issues, said a media release.

Kamalesh Kumar Das is a well-established singer of Bangladesh and sings classical, semi-classical, modern Bangla songs and ‘Ponchokobir Gaan’.

He was also born in a musical family. His father, Late Hem Chandra Das, was a renowned Tabla player and Music scholar.

When pursuing his higher education at Rajshahi University, Kamalesh Kumar Das also took lessons in classical music from eminent vocalists namely, Pt. Haripada Das, Anup Kumar Das, Pt Amaresh Ray Chowdhury, Ustad Rabiul Islam, Ustad Abdul Jabbar and Ustad Dr. Harun-Or-Rashid.

He is a regular enlisted artist of Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrulgeeti and Modern Bangla songs in BTV and also regularly sings in various other channels.

Mr Das also performs in programmes organised at Chhayanaut, Shilpakala Academy, Press Club, and weekly programmes of Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad.

He has also performed abroad in USA and was a popular singer during his stay in St. Louis, USA from 1997 to 1999.
