National Nutrition Week begins in Gaibandha

National Nutrition Week-2018 began in the district as elsewhere in the country on Monday with a call to create much awareness among the people about nutrition for health.

This year's theme of the week is "Nutrition must be considered when we think of food - Khaddyer Katha Bhable, Pustir Kathao Bhabun".

Marking the week, district health department have chalked out the elaborate programmes in cooperation with district administration, department of agriculture extension, and non government organisations.

The programmes include counselling on maternal nutrition, breastfeeding for the mothers, awareness meeting for the farmers about nutrition, cook competition, and prize distribution ceremony.

On Monday morning, deputy commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal formally inaugurated the week through participating in a grand rally that was brought out from the premises of civil surgeon (CS) office in Gaibandha.

The rally ended in front of DC office after parading the main roads of the town, reports BSS.

The programme was followed by a discussion meeting at the conference room of DC office with CS Dr Abdus Shakur in the chair.

DC Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the meeting as the chief guest and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon, additional police super Abdullah Al Faruk, superintendent of Gaibandha Sadar Hospital Amal Chandra Saha, and president of BMA, district unit, Dr. Shahiduzzaman Harun were present as the special guests.

The speakers in their speeches said the celebration of the National Nutrition Week would play vital role in building a healthy, sound and prosperous nation alongside making people aware about nutrition.

DC Gautam Chandra Pals said people's eagerness about food standard and nutrition would increase that would encourage them to take nutritious food and build a healthy generation.

Earlier, Sadar upazila health and family planning officer Dr ABM Abu Hanif made a presentation on the significance of the week through multimedia projector and conducted the ceremony as moderator.

A number of district level officials, staff of health and family planning department, NGO activists and journalists took part in the programmes.
