232 indicted for killing police in Gaibandha

A Gaibandha court on Sunday framed charges against 232 people, including former Jamaat lawmaker and convicted war criminal Abdul Aziz alias 'Ghoramara Aziz', in a case filed over killing of four policemen in Sundarganj upazila of the district in 2013.

Gaibandha additional district and session judge court passed the order in presence of 225 accused in the case.

"The court framed charges against 232 with convicted war criminal Ghoramara Aziz as the top accused. Among them, 223 were on bail, two were in jail and seven, including Aziz, are still on run. Of the accused, 225 were present," said public prosecutor Md Shafikul Islam.

On February 28, 2013, members of Jamaat-e-Islami and its so called student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir created mayhem in the district following the conviction of Delwar Hossain Sayedee in crimes against humanity case.

According to the case documents, they launched a coordinated attack on the day at Bamandanga Police Investigation Centre in Sundarganj and Railway Station and killed four policemen.

Police, later, filed a case against around 2,600 people over the attack. On September 14, 2014, the law enforcers filed chargesheet against 235 in the case, reports BSS.
