Authority suspends two CMP cops after accused flees custody

Two policemen of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) were suspended recently over the escape of an accused from their custody.

Sub-inspector Fakhrul Islam of Akbar Shah Police Station and Constable Khokon of Chittagong Court prosecution were suspended on charges of negligence of duty, said CMP Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman.

CMP (West) Deputy Commissioner Farukul Islam (west) and CMP (North) Deputy Commissioner Hasan Mohammad Shawkat Ali issued the temporary suspension order.

Earlier in the day, arrestee Masud Rana of Patwaribari in Kabirhat of Noakhali district, who was an accused drug dealer escaped from police custody when he was brought to the district court for hearing on Tuesday.

Officer-in-Charge of Akbar Shah Police Station Jashim Uddin said Masud, along with the officers who brought waiting in the courtyard for hearing on his remand around 2 pm.

At one stage Masud could not be found anymore. Eventually, they realised Masud had fled averting everyone's attention, right from under police's nose, UNB reports.

Masud had been suffering in jail since he was arrested from Pahartali area in the city one and half months earlier in a case filed under Narcotic Control Acts with the police station.
