Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed optimism that Bangladesh will become a model country of green, tech-based development in the future through renewable solar power generation.
The premier expressed this optimism while inaugurating a renewable solar power grid rooftop at the swearing-in hall of the national parliament building on Sunday morning, reports bdnews24.com.
He said, ``Today we are inaugurating an initiative that is not just about electricity generation, but also a symbol of Bangladesh's sustainable future. By inaugurating a 1MW rooftop solar power system at the national parliament building, I think we can give a clear message, which is that Bangladesh is gradually moving firmly towards a clean energy, green economy and self-reliant energy system.''
``I firmly believe that the initiative at the national parliament building will inspire all government and private institutions in the country. If every roof, every institution and every citizen participates in this clean energy journey, Bangladesh can, Allah willing, very soon become a model state of green and tech-based development. “
Tarique said, “This national parliament building, designed by Louis Kahn, is certainly a symbol of our democracy. By using solar energy on the roof of that building, we seem to be trying to prove that it should be reflected not in leadership or policy, but in practical actions.”
“Bangladesh is also trying to achieve self-determination energy. Our economy is expanding, industrialisation is increasing, and the demand for electricity is increasing rapidly. At the same time, we must admit that Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world in terms of experiencing the effects of climate change. Rising sea levels, irregular rainfall, cyclones and river erosion are our daily reality. Therefore, moving towards sustainable energy is no longer just an environmental responsibility but an essential part of our economy and national security.”
He said, “Solar energy is the brightest aspect of that potential. We in Bangladesh receive an average of 5.5 to 10.5kwh of solar energy per square kilometre per day. Our numerous rooftops, industrial areas, open land and coastal areas hold huge potential for renewable energy.”
“In the past decade, global solar power generation has declined drastically. As a result, solar power is now not only environmentally friendly, but also a very economically viable solution. Today’s project is part of that larger journey.”
