The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed its Director M Nazmul Islam from his post as chairman of its finance committee, following an ultimatum from cricketers.
BCB President Aminul Islam will serve as acting chairman of the committee until further notice, the board said in a press release issued on Wednesday afternoon.
The move came after the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) issued an ultimatum on Wednesday night, demanding Nazmul’s resignation over his controversial remarks about cricketers. The deadline set by the players was 1pm the following day.
Nazmul did not resign, and cricketers boycotted the opening match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), scheduled to begin at 1pm. They later held a press conference, reiterating their demand and seeking a formal announcement regarding it from the BCB within 48 hours.
In its statement, the BCB said its President had decided to remove Nazmul from the post with immediate effect after reviewing some recent incidents and considering the board’s best interests.
