Bangladesh has recorded a remarkable improvement in global ranking on reduction of gender gap, according to the latest report published by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The Global Gender Gap Report 2017, released on Thursday, shows that Bangladesh has been ranked 47th among 144 countries considered in the gender gap index by jumping 25 steps within a year from 72nd position in 2016.

Bangladesh is among the top 10 countries in the ‘political empowerment’ pillar of the index and stood 7th.

The country’s rank improved in the ‘economic participation and opportunity’ pillar as it was ranked 129th this year from earlier 135th position.

Ranking also marked a rise to 111th from 114th in the ‘educational attainment’ during the period under review.

But the country’s position deteriorated in the ‘health and survival’ pillar as the ranking significantly dropped to 125 in the current year from 93 in the past year.

Overall, new data from the WEF pointed out that the gap between the achievements and well-being of men and women reduced significantly during the past year.
